From the courage of the founders to the challanges of the present

To celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Ventotene Manifesto, the birth of European federalism as a political movement, the Maison Monnet-European Parliament in collaboration with the European Observatory on Memories (EUROM) in Barcelona and the Altiero Spinelli Institute for Federalist Studies published the volume "Ventotene 80”, which in six essays analyses the role of the Ventotene Manifesto on post-war European integration. 

After the presentations in Verona and Ventotene, the volume will now be presented in Lecce this Friday 20 January 2023, 5:30 p.m., at the University of Salento (Rector's Conference Room, Piazza Tancredi 7), during the conference 'The long road to European integration. From the courage of the founders to the challenges of the present", organised by the "Jean Monnet" Chair of European Law-Supranatonal Democracy.

The meeting is divided into two parts. After the greetings of the Rector Fabio Pollice and the Mayor of Lecce Carlo Salvemini, the book will be presented with the participation of Michele Fiorillo (Scuola Normale Superiore - Civico Europa/Citizens Take Over Europe) and Debora Righetti (Maison Jean Monnet - European Parliament), among the editors and authors of the work, introduced by Claudia Morini, Professor of European Law-UniSalento.
In the second part of the meeting a round table is scheduled on the theme "Conversation on the future of the European Union". The debate will be attended by representatives from politics, academia, institutions and civil society: the Minister for European Affairs Raffaele Fitto; the President of the Regional Council of Puglia Loredana Capone; Susanna Cafaro, Professor of European Law-Jean Monnet Chair; Professor Francesco Bestagno of the Catholic University, legal advisor of the Italian Permanent Representation to the European Union; Professor Fabio Masini of the Roma 3 University, co-director of the sudi CesUE centre and Euractiv Italia; Professor Luigi Melica, Director of the Department of Legal Sciences-UniSalento; Federico Russo, Professor of Political Science-UniSalento; Alberto Maritati (European Movement Puglia), Simona Ciullo (European Federalist Movement Puglia), Mauro Spedicati (Catholic Action Diocese of Lecce) and Anna Chiara Stefanucci (Europe Direct Taranto).
