Protection of personal data
The European Parliament and Jean Monnet House attach great importance to respecting the right to privacy. The protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data by the Union institutions is governed by Regulation (EU) N° 2018/1725 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 October 2018.
“Personal data” means any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person (‘data subject’). An identifiable natural person is one who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identifier such as a name, an identification number, location data, an online identifier or to one or more factors specific to the physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural or social identity of that natural person.
“Processing” means any operation or set of operations which is performed on personal data or on sets of personal date, whether or not by automated means, such as collection, recording, organisation, structuring, storage, adaptation or alteration, retrieval, consultation, use, disclosure by transmission, dissemination or otherwise making available, alignment or combination, restriction, erasure or destruction.
Why do we collect, store and process your data?
In principle, access to the information available on or via the website of the Jean Monnet House does not require any personal data to be supplied by the user.
Personal information is collected only when citizens, professionals and organisations voluntarily wish to be informed on how to get to the Jean Monnet House, or informed on the Jean Monnet House events, visits and exhibitions, or who have subscribed for the JMH press releases.
The personal information collected for such purposes will be treated in accordance with the policy described in Regulation (EC) N° 2018/1725.
The Jean Monnet House will collect and process the personal information only for the purposes and to the extent necessary to reach the objectives for which they were transmitted by the data subjects. It will not be reused for a purpose incompatible with the original purpose.
Who is responsible for the processing of your data?
Your data is processed under the responsibility of the Head of Visitors’ Services Coordination Unit, Directorate-General for Communication of the European Parliament (“Controller”). The Data Protection officer of the European Parliament ensures the institution applies the provisions of the Regulation (EU) N° 2018/1725.
What personal data do we process?
We will collect information from you when you fill-in the subscription forms on the Jean Monnet House website.
With your consent, we collect from you the below personal data:
- Name and Surname
- Name of Organisation,
- Contact details (e.g. email address, city and country of origin)
- Future communication preferences including, but not limited to, subscription preferences and areas of interest in one or more of a number of subcategories subjects
How will your personal data be processed?
The European Parliament and the Jean Monnet House are committed to protecting the security of your personal information. We use a variety of security technologies and procedures to help protect your personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure.
Your personal data are stored in secured servers with limited access, which are located in controlled facilities.
For how long will your personal data be stored?
The personal data will be stored no longer than necessary for the purposes for which they were collected, or until the data subjects have requested their removal.
The data may, however, be kept for a longer period for archiving in the public interest, scientific or historical research purposes or statistical purposes, without prejudice to any other provision of Regulation (EU) No. 2018/1725 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 October 2018.
Will your personal data be shared?
Only the European Parliament and the Jean Monnet House have access to your data.
Only in case of audit or judicial procedures the Court of Auditors, the Court of Justice and the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) would be involved.
The European Parliament and Jean Monnet House do not share personal data with third parties for direct marketing.
Will there be a transfer of your personal data outside of the European Parliament to either EU or non-EU countries?
Your data will not be transferred outside of the European Parliament and the Jean Monnet House.
What rights do you have?
You have the right to withdraw your consent, to access, to rectify, to erase the data or request restriction of processing concerning your data at any time by contacting the Data Controller, Visitors’ Services Coordination Unit, at vscueuroparl [dot] europa [dot] eu (vscu[at]europarl[dot]europa[dot]eu)
You have also the right to object to processing and the data portability.
